New Beginnings

...Peeking out of my papoose!

We're quickly approaching the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashana, the Wiccan holiday of Mabon and the seasonal change at the Autumnal Equinox. This year, however, these holidays seem more potent than usual as for the first time, they are all falling on the same day: Friday, September 22nd. How we handle ourselves and the people around us in the next few days leading up to this "new beginning" is extremely important in what we will reap or sow in the new year to come.

Rosh Hashana is typically celebrated by 24 hours without any technology whatsoever. No cars, no television, no computers, no phones, no electricity. No distractions! It's a time to reflect, to look at our behavior in the past year and honestly evaluate what it is we'd like to change about ourselves and what goals we would like to set for the new year -- and to realize there is no better time to start than right now, creating a vessel so that the blessings of Rosh Hashana will fill it until the cup runneth over!

Equinox literally means that night and day are at the same points. All is in perfect balance with light and dark, night and day, the sun and the moon. Which leads us right into the Wiccan holiday of Mabon, which is just as much about death as it is life. It is a time of mourning that which as past, celebrating the bountiful "corn of plenty" we hold in the present and setting goals for our own personal "harvest" in the very near future. It's a time of great change and of integration; where the lessons learned from Summer are applied within to regenerate into wisdom as we take our new form.

And all of it this year happens on Friday, September 22nd.

Kabbalists believe this is one of the most powerful days of the year and that anything you ask for at this time, or as the Wiccans might say, anything you wish to reap in the harvest, can be received right now. All you have to do is ask for it.

Hmm... that seems a little too good to be true, doesn't it? But it's so important that we really understand what that means. I meditated on this idea earlier this week and found that when I ask the heavens for blessings, I am usually very limited in what I ask for. When we wish upon a star, do we ever say, "Listen, bitch! I want it ALL!" and when we do, do we say, "...oh, and by the way, I want it RIGHT NOW?"

No, of course not. Because we think it's impossible. And as long as we continue believing it is impossible, it will continue to be impossible.

Think about it. Anyone with a spiritual outlook on life believes that endless blessings are always already there waiting for us. It is only our consciousness preventing us from receiving them.

Now is a time of returning to the beginning, with a new year, a new cycle -- and with that comes a return to innocence and the power of belief. Don't be afraid to ask for it all and to ask for it now and to believe with all of your being that since you've asked, you will receive it.

However, it is most important to ask yourself: Why am I asking for it all? Why do I want all of these blessings? Make sure you go into it with the proper intentions. Not to receive just for the self alone, but so that you can share your bountiful cornucopia with the world! You don't have to change what you're asking for. Just shift your intention by referring back to your perception. Why do you want to take more? So that you have more to give. (Again, the balance!) That's what we all really want underneath it all at the end of the day as we are all born in the "image," so to speak, of the ultimate giver. Underneath all our ambition, all our drive to succeed, without being able to give something back, we would feel empty. So really, you're just shifting your consciousness to realize the truth.

This is a very important week. May you all use the power to bring more light into your lives so that you can illuminate it back into the world. God bless and have a happy new beginning.
