New Year's Resolutions

Rosh Hashana/Mabon/Autumnal Equinox - New Year's Resolutions

- To see the balance in all things. The light and the dark.

- To stop judging myself, being my own hardest critic, and thereby halting judgment of others. To recognize that perfection is an illusion.

- To do away with the need for an audience and their approval. What people do with who I am or what I do is their own business - not mine. And fame/celebrity can be achieved by absolutely anyone these days, so it certainly no longer means that you're talented or even affecting people. It is the work that matters. It is my ideas and words that affect people that will remain long after I'm gone.

- To learn to emrbace vulnerability in myself. To not be afraid of wanting and to not be afraid of not getting it or even getting it! Anything that is meant to be yours will be yours. To not be afraid of getting hurt because I'm going to be eventually anyway. And thank God for that!

- To truly love and have a great respect for myself, my talents, my body and the whole of me organically.

- To direct my "competitive beast" towards my career instead of my personal life. Not to be the "best" or for ego, but to create the best possible product to share with the world. To be competitive where it is uplifting to me and others instead of being competitive with friends and lovers.

- To bring more of my intelligence to EVERYTHING I do. Hell, even water can be smart these days!

- To recognize that "star quality" is merely living 110% in the present moment.

- To have certainty that everything I desire in this world is already here. It's just waiting for me to take it, to reveal it by shifting my consciousness to receiving for the sake of sharing instead of receiving for the self alone.

New Beginnings

...Peeking out of my papoose!

We're quickly approaching the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashana, the Wiccan holiday of Mabon and the seasonal change at the Autumnal Equinox. This year, however, these holidays seem more potent than usual as for the first time, they are all falling on the same day: Friday, September 22nd. How we handle ourselves and the people around us in the next few days leading up to this "new beginning" is extremely important in what we will reap or sow in the new year to come.

Rosh Hashana is typically celebrated by 24 hours without any technology whatsoever. No cars, no television, no computers, no phones, no electricity. No distractions! It's a time to reflect, to look at our behavior in the past year and honestly evaluate what it is we'd like to change about ourselves and what goals we would like to set for the new year -- and to realize there is no better time to start than right now, creating a vessel so that the blessings of Rosh Hashana will fill it until the cup runneth over!

Equinox literally means that night and day are at the same points. All is in perfect balance with light and dark, night and day, the sun and the moon. Which leads us right into the Wiccan holiday of Mabon, which is just as much about death as it is life. It is a time of mourning that which as past, celebrating the bountiful "corn of plenty" we hold in the present and setting goals for our own personal "harvest" in the very near future. It's a time of great change and of integration; where the lessons learned from Summer are applied within to regenerate into wisdom as we take our new form.

And all of it this year happens on Friday, September 22nd.

Kabbalists believe this is one of the most powerful days of the year and that anything you ask for at this time, or as the Wiccans might say, anything you wish to reap in the harvest, can be received right now. All you have to do is ask for it.

Hmm... that seems a little too good to be true, doesn't it? But it's so important that we really understand what that means. I meditated on this idea earlier this week and found that when I ask the heavens for blessings, I am usually very limited in what I ask for. When we wish upon a star, do we ever say, "Listen, bitch! I want it ALL!" and when we do, do we say, "...oh, and by the way, I want it RIGHT NOW?"

No, of course not. Because we think it's impossible. And as long as we continue believing it is impossible, it will continue to be impossible.

Think about it. Anyone with a spiritual outlook on life believes that endless blessings are always already there waiting for us. It is only our consciousness preventing us from receiving them.

Now is a time of returning to the beginning, with a new year, a new cycle -- and with that comes a return to innocence and the power of belief. Don't be afraid to ask for it all and to ask for it now and to believe with all of your being that since you've asked, you will receive it.

However, it is most important to ask yourself: Why am I asking for it all? Why do I want all of these blessings? Make sure you go into it with the proper intentions. Not to receive just for the self alone, but so that you can share your bountiful cornucopia with the world! You don't have to change what you're asking for. Just shift your intention by referring back to your perception. Why do you want to take more? So that you have more to give. (Again, the balance!) That's what we all really want underneath it all at the end of the day as we are all born in the "image," so to speak, of the ultimate giver. Underneath all our ambition, all our drive to succeed, without being able to give something back, we would feel empty. So really, you're just shifting your consciousness to realize the truth.

This is a very important week. May you all use the power to bring more light into your lives so that you can illuminate it back into the world. God bless and have a happy new beginning.

A Note for 9/11

Aside from prayers for the passed and the mourning, for me, I think today is a time to reflect on "terrorism" -- this word that people seem to throw around so much now that has become a weapon in and of itself. Every road leads back to my own door and if the best way to change the world is to start with myself, I have to ask myself what am I assassinating on a daily basis? What am I castrating from within and how can I stop setting off bombs within my own tower?

"Whether long range weapon or suicide bomber, wicked mind is a weapon of mass destruction. Whether you're Soaraway Sun or BBC 1, misinformation is a weapon of mass destruction. You could be a Caucasian or a Asian, racism is a weapon of mass destruction. Whether inflation or globalization, fear is a weapon of mass destruction. Whether Halliburton, Enron or anyone, Greed is a weapon of mass destruction. We need to find courage, overcome. Inaction is a weapon of mass destruction." - Faithless

Resurrection

Suck it in.
Suck it up.
Suck it in.
Suck it up.
Like a sniff off the mirror.
He'll give you the strength
And he'll will you the power.

Danger at the dinner table.
Your wonder bread.
Separation from the altar to the pew.

Does he read you?
Is he 10-4?
Does he over and out?
Or is it all upside down today?
What do you use to dial his name?

Snort it in.
Shoot it up.
Snort it in.
Shoot it up.
Nose pressed to the mirror.
But if there's no reflection
Boy, you must be a vampire.

If there's only one road then
I'll build me a spaceship.
Maybe if I try I could walk on water too.

Does he read you?
Is he 10-4?
Does he over and out?
Or is it all upside down today?
What do you use to dial his name?

Force fed a translation.
I'm gagging on these words to the
Greatest story that might never been told.
I know where to find the Bibles and the condoms.
I'd rather my stars and my stripes.
I worship these scars from this plight.
Just like the son.
Just like the son.
Just like the son before me.

He said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
He has risen in his name.
He said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
He has risen from the grave.

He said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
He has risen for my name.
He said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
I have risen from his grave.

He said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
I have risen in his name.
I said, "God is the will, but I am the way."
I have risen. I have risen. I have risen. I have risen. ...In my own way.

Secrets of "The Covenant"

Saw "The Covenant" tonight at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. First of all, I love seeing horror movies on opening night. Secondly, I love seeing horror movies in theaters this huge. So I was going to have fun regardless of the fact that it was obviously a B-movie that happened to have an extremely big budget!

So here's my thoughts without ruining anything for you. The best thing about the movie is the eye candy. There's plenty of half-naked guys to oogle and even some nearly naked chicks along the way -- all of whom look like they've been plucked out of the most recent A&F catalog. This alone really is worth the price of admission.

But the other really great thing about it is the screenplay. The idea here is that every time the members of this covenant use their magical powers, it kills their body a little more. But having that much power can be addictive so, of course, you want to use it all the time. But you don't want to end up looking like you're 150 when you're only 30, so you've gotta have some balance.

It's heavy on the metaphors, especially when it comes to the covenant's "powers" being like drugs -- it'll hurt your body, it's highly addictive and if that's not enough they call working their magic "using." But what I walked away from the movie with, as a person with strong spiritual beliefs, is that we all have power in this world and how we manage that power, whether we use it for good or evil, where we pull out "luck" cards, etc. all play a part in the erosion of ourselves, physically and metaphysically. It made me think about how much power each of us actually hold, how much we acknowledge our own capabilities and how the decisions we make in every second of our lives shape what our future will be.

Now, make no mistake though! That's just me talking my crazy spiritual talk. "Ghandi" this movie ain't! But it's entertaining enough.

Hidden Moon

Interesting full moon tonight. It's "hidden" in nearly every sense of the term. Neil hasn't written a damned thing about it, no one out there has mentioned it to me in passing and no one here in Los Angeles can see it, literally, as it remains behind the dark night clouds. But as we are all well aware, the brightest of lights are those which remain hidden and its that which we can't see that is most worth seeking.

And like most prizes of this nature, all it takes is acknowledgment of that which can't be seen to tap into it. The second I lit my Goddess candles, put on some magikal musik and invoked the spirit of the Moon, that great tide swept over me and began whispering all of the lunar wisdom meant for me to receive and share.

A hidden full moon is hidden from some of us for a reason: To remind us that it is always up to us to connect to that energy. Nothing else will do it for us. No magic. No astrologer. No money. No mother. No father. No boyfriend. No best friend. All of these things help you in connecting to the light at times, but they are useless without one thing: You. You are your only Savior and your greatest connection to the higher powers. So will you wait until the next moon? Will you wait to read from someone else what it is supposed to be about? Or will you start accepting you don't need anyone to hold your hand? When will you start being your own savior instead of your own slayer? That is a gift of this hidden full moon.

A hidden full moon, that bright light behind the dark clouds, is also symbolic of accepting balance. The darkness and the light. The light hiding within the darkness. Many of us are at points right now were we are recognizing this duality in all things. I posted a poem to my Diary yesterday (creativity, also the realm of the full moon and the Goddess) called "Sorry/Not Sorry," denoting that while I may have regrets about the way certain things have gone down, I am grateful for them because I wouldn't be where I am right now without those mistakes. Doesn't mean I don't regret them. Doesn't mean I'd do it any differently either. Duality. Balance. Tolerance. It seems the grey area (or silver, lol!) is always the holy one, isn't it?

A hidden full moon might also make us think about the idea that what's gone is never really gone. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. This may extend into specific parts of your life at the moment. Nothing really dies, it just takes new form. For instance, I've had to stop being friends with a few people lately, stop working for certain companies, etc. It doesn't mean these people are no longer in my life. Though I don't see or speak to them physically, they're inside of me now, tattooed on my soul. Our experiences, our mistakes, our lessons, our joys -- all a part of me. So just because you don't see something doesn't mean it's not there. This could also be related to trust issues. Trust that even though you don't see the moon that it is there. Trust that even though you might not see God in all things, God is there. Trust that the universe will provide all that you need even in your darkest hours. Light is always in endless supply. It is up to us to connect to it. After all, the true strength and character of one person is based in how they handle themselves in the face of adversity.

This full moon gives us an opportunity to connect to one of our greatest strengths: Our own! The one no one or thing can take away from us and through which we become riot proof. Chances are, those of you out there connecting to it tonight have felt the same thing.

;-)
