The beginning of your life.

Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. Welcome to it.

This can be said for anyone’s life on any given day, of course, but today I’m especially feeling it. In just a few hours, the love of my life will be moving into my apartment and I just have this certainty, on a gut instinct and soul level, that we are going to live together from that moment until the day our physical beings expire. Our story is frightengly similar to "When Harry Met Sally." We met years ago and hated each other. Then didn't see each other for a year. Then ran into each other in the most bizarre circumstance (I was leaving a job the same week he was starting there), got reacquainted and became inseparable best friends for five years until one fateful Stevie Nicks concert in Vegas where we decided it was time to grow up and we fell in love. What happens in Vegas should NOT always stay in Vegas!

So is this happily ever after! I’m no fool. There are going to be adjustments and fights, many challenges along the way. But that is what love is about and without those moments, how are you supposed to grow together?

A year ago, I’d have never been able to deal with a change in my life this dramatic. Something that knowingly would present this many challenges? No way! Why walk into a fire instead of around one? Well, I learned something recently from Kabbalah’s online study, “Zohar Reading: Scorpio 2005”: Challenges should be looked at as gifts. When you’re presented with an obstacle, you have only two options of how to approach it: With positive energy or negative energy. You can “react” to it (usually our initial instinct, unfortunately) or you can “proact.” Anyone would have to admit, when you go after an obstacle with rage and anger or any emotion based out of fear, you tend to lose the battle rather quickly, but when you take a moment to pause and think about the challenge and how best to approach it with patience and love, you not only overcome the obstacle, but you learn something from it and you take that with you in your life. And there is the gift.

The bigger the challenge, the bigger the gift that is hiding inside waiting to be revealed.

And, here’s the awesome part for anyone with any sort of spiritual belief system, anyone who believes that the “physical world” is only 1% of our dimension compared to the 99% “ether” or “spiritual world” or “energy” or “light” or “God” that is out there waiting for us to tap into it… there is such a simple solution to any challenges that we might find in our lives.

SOLUTION TO ALL CHALLENGES: Removing the chains and walls of the “illusion” of your physical reality.

I’ve got to remember that it’s only 1% when I'm faced with that physical obstacle. I’ve got to remember that there is a reason for everything. I’ve got to remember that nothing can disturb the connection between me and my higher power. Whatever obstacle I am facing, no matter how big or small, it’s not real. It’s the illusion of our reality. The physical world that we live in and see every day around us is only a curtain. It’s not real. And this concept, shouldn’t be foreign to anyone. Hell, even any scientist will tell you that. It’s protons and electrons and particles of energy, right?

If I want to get through the obstacle course of life as we know it, that 1% reality, with more ease, if I want to be a happier person in my life -- I have to eliminate the illusions, fears and intimidations all born of “what will I get” from the physical reality. What about: “What will I give?”

Remove the illusion.

It’s all a gift. And it’s all a test, too. It’s no coincidence that when we are at our most giving and most sharing, even more obstacles seem to come in our path. No good deed seems to go unpunished, right? We’ve all experienced this. But this is not a coincidence. This is the Creator’s way of wanting to give you more gifts because you’re on the right track. You’re doing so well with the obstacles you’ve been faced with, you’re on a roll! Don’t stop now! More gifts coming your way! More growth! More happiness in overcoming those obstacles.

So, will things be happily ever after now that I‘ve found my life partner? No, I don’t think so. I don’t believe in fairy tales. The 1200 tricks that I hooked up with before settling down, those were my “sort of fairytales.” But I do believe that we have more “gifts” to offer together than we do apart and in the midst of chaos he reminds me of what is most important in each day, pushing me to new heights of sharing, wholeness and enlightenment. Will it be difficult today when he moves in here? Sure. But it'll be just as difficult if we'd waited five more years and I don’t see any reason to waste time when there’s only so much left in this lifetime.
